Abstract:
The research addresses the importance of integrating environmental education into the
curriculum of rural schools, focusing on sustainable practices and the formation of ecological
awareness among students. The main objectives of this integrative research were to enhance
pedagogical practices focused on the environment and sustainability in these schools, identify
challenges and opportunities for implementing sustainable practices in daily school life and
propose strategies that strengthen the transversality of sustainability in teaching. The research
revealed significant challenges, such as the lack of material resources and adequate
infrastructure, in addition to the need for continued training of teachers on sustainability
topics. However, promising opportunities were also identified, such as the educational
potential of the rural environment and the possibility of partnerships with organizations and
institutions that can contribute resources and technical knowledge. The results indicate that,
despite the difficulties faced, it is possible to implement innovative pedagogical practices that
integrate sustainability across the school curriculum. Suggested strategies include the creation
of community projects, teacher training and the valorization of the natural environment as a
pedagogical tool, with the aim of promoting greater environmental awareness and preparing
students for the ecological challenges of the Canindé-CE region.
