The National School Feeding Program (PNAE) is an essential public policy to guarantee food
and nutritional security for students in public schools in Brazil. This dissertation addresses the
importance of PNAE in municipal public schools in Canindé-CE, through an integrative
study, which seeks to consolidate different perspectives and evidence on the topic. The
research investigates how PNAE contributes to the physical, cognitive and social
development of students, by offering balanced meals adapted to children's nutritional needs.
Furthermore, the study analyzes the program's performance in combating hunger and
promoting healthy eating habits, highlighting the relevance of family farming as a supplier of
fresh and regional food for schools. The study also explores the challenges faced in
implementing the PNAE at a local level, such as difficulties in logistics, storage and adapting
the menu. The research highlights the importance of efficient management and nutritional
monitoring to guarantee the quality of the meals offered. It is concluded that the PNAE is a
crucial instrument for the well-being of students and for improving education in Canindé, by
promoting healthy and accessible eating in the school environment.
