Resumo:
This work aims to observe and analyze the forms of social interactions among rural youth
in urban school. The research was done in the Francisco de Assis Maciel Lopes Primary
School - O Assissao, in the municipality of Queimadas, State of Paraiba, the research
subjects were the rural youth in the second year of Secondary School, morning session.
The study is constructed through the ethnographical method, observing the interactions
between the studerits in the school spaces during breaks, off-classes time and in the
classrooms of the" second year. We have also done semi-structured interviews and
questionaries with the young people and their fathers and mothers who live near to the BT104
road, because the access and transport. The documents were collected in the school
secretary and allowed us to access informations on the institution and the students. We
draw on the concepts of habitus, cultural capital of Bourdieu (2001; 2002; 2004a; 2004b),
primary socialization of Berger (1974) and interaction, background region, front region,
personal appearance of Goffmann (1985), to interpret the material collected by the
methodological instruments. We concluded that the rural youth, who study in the second
year of the High School in reference, desire to conclude, at least, the high school, to have
access to work and goods of the globalized world. We observed that school is not
considered a valuable place only as a learning institution, but as a sociability space, too.
Meantime, the image constructed by the teachers and school direction about the rural
students in the school that they are interactive, obedient and inclined on studying can be
explained by the socialization process in the rural area. In Bourdieu' words, this can be
interpreted as the habitus of the rural youth.
