Resumo:
Studying the memories of quilombola communities is a fruitful way of understanding the
Intergenerational Education practices of these communities, as it is a space that nurtures
transformative debates, capable of bringing knowledge, skills and new values to the daily lives
of the elderly. This theme was investigated on a journey with the Postgraduate Program in
Education at the Federal University of Tocantins (PPGE/UFT) in the State, Society and
Educational Practices line. This work is a qualitative, phenomenologically-based study, the
general aim of which was to understand and describe the experience lived by these individuals,
from their own perspective and experience. This approach involved the Ilha de São Vicente
quilombola community, which belongs to the legal Amazon, in the municipality of Araguatins
- Tocantins. Thus, the three specific objectives of this publication are also phenomenological:
to explore interests in educational practices with people in quilombola communities in the Legal
Amazon; to reveal perspectives on relationships with older people in the municipality of
Araguatins - Tocantins; and to understand the experiences involved in education with older
people in the Ilha de São Vicente community. The phenomenological approach made it
possible to identify common themes, patterns of meaning and unique perspectives of elderly
quilombolas in relation to their connection with UMA/UFT's educational practices with the
elderly. The research explored different aspects, focusing on educational practices and
intergenerational relations, as well as observing the relationship between UMA/UFT and the
quilombola community in its pedagogical practices. To this end, the following guiding question
was raised: "How does the experience of elderly people at UMA/UFT reach elderly people in
the Ilha de São Vicente quilombola community, which belongs to the legal Amazon, in the
municipality of Araguatins - Tocantins? The University of Maturity (UMA) is a project that has
worked - some examples of its success are presented in the body of the text). According to the
results of practices in quilombola communities, there is a need to set up a UMA/UFT center in
the city of Araguatins to assist quilombolas in the municipality. This same center could benefit
elderly people from three other quilombos in nearby municipalities, since, according to the
actions and visits, the population has shown acceptance and interest in strengthening ties with
UMA/UFT. By writing this dissertation, we believe it is possible to see the importance of
promoting an inclusive and respectful society for the elderly, recognizing their fundamental
role in passing on knowledge and building collective memories. May this affectionate view of
elderly quilombolas continue and be translated into concrete initiatives to guarantee their rights
and promote a society that welcomes and respects them to the full.
