Resumo:
Biology and science teachers face several obstacles in teaching botany, whether due to a lack of teaching resources or problems in their initial training. Therefore, it is necessary to understand these problems in depth in order to develop solutions. Therefore, this work is characterized as a qualitative research study on the difficulties in teaching and learning botany in a segment of Brazilian basic education. The tool, using Google Forms, consists of 12 questions and was used to obtain data provided by 10 teachers trained in biological sciences in basic education in the interior of Paraíba and Rio Grande do Norte. The results demonstrated a positive outlook for teacher training in botany teaching, as all those interviewed had adequate training and understood the need for continuing education for educational practice, with all having some type of postgraduate degree, as well as the importance of contextualization and implementing alternative methodologies.
