Resumen:
This research is part of the studies of family farming and distribution of water
resources. It aims to present the main prerogatives of rural development, starting from the
relevance of family farming activities. Some considerations are made regarding the Brazilian family farming policy, as a theoretical basis to better verify the particularities of the field of study. Thus, the objectives of this study were to characterize the farming policy of the Riacho do Meio community, located in the municipality of Olho D‟água-PB, as well as the influence that theJenipapeiro dam has for family farming in the region. The results indicate that the farming of this community still presents aspects poorly developed, however, it represents the main source of income of the place. It was also verified the inefficiency of the water distribution for the local farming practices. It is hoped to contribute with the publicpolicies aimed at solving the problem of family farming for small municipalities in a way that allows farmers thebest use of the water resources, which in turn are determining factors for a good planting.
