Abstract:
This work studies Teaching Philosophy that is offered in four public high schools in the
city of Cajazeiras/PB and its philosophical potential. The specific aims were: to explain
what the philosophical potential in Teaching of Philosophy means, to identify the
challenges (limits) encountered by teachers and students for this kind of teaching and
learning, to verify the existence of successful experiences in the teaching-learning
process of Philosophy from the perspective of philosophizing, to increase the
philosophical potential. It was a qualitative research by application forms and class-
room observations and personal interviews with teachers and students. Some challenges
still going on: non-sufficient time for Philosophy classes and lot of students with
reading problems and the absence or precariousness of didactic resources. But there are
also successful experiences. The successful experiences in Teaching Philosophy show
how is important teachers try teach starting from the daily student’s life and theirs
personal reality.
