Abstract

This work attempts to trace the origin and development of Ihe concepts, ideas and paradigms which dominated intellectual formulations about Ihe regional problem in the context of Ihe complex totality of the "free market". In the earlier period, the idea of the state as the promoter of development was consolidated, whereas in the present situation, the concepts and propositions of the previous period have been weakened and invalidated. The intention has been to discover why certain concepts echo in the significant thought structure of each age being transformed into a great collective social force, part of a "wordl-vision". Marxist politico-economic criticism was examined, in the concepts of theoretic discourse. This potentially legitimizes the middle class monopolist order in its "mature and consolidated" phase. This could be reason for the entirety of thought about the "regional question" in each epoch and also the forms of "middle-class contention" for the solution of the crises of these periods. The contratictory characteristics verified in these two conceptual systems have been comprehended and explained as products of a specific social and historical situation. This is to say that their ideological substance has been dealt with, and has not been considered as a "theoretical inconsistency", as, in this case, reality would be transformed into the eternized reality of the established order.
