Resumen:
The conquest of political law, especially voting and representation, did not prevent the
disparity in the female participation in relation to the male, as the occupation of women in
positions of decision in the political power, in Brazil it’s low. In this sense, this study intends
to contribute to an understanding of the causes that lead to the low representation of women in
decision-making spaces of the counties and the impact that this scarcity generates for the
maintenance of inequality of rights between genders. In this way, the present work aims to
understand the issues of representation and political representation of women from the
counties of Monteiro and Sumé, located in Cariri Paraibano. This is an exploratory research
with a qualitative approach and use of a semi-structured interview technique and a
questionnaire with twenty-one (21) questions and a sample of nine (9) city councilwomen
elected from 2000 to 2016. For this, this study is anchored in the Theory of Social
Representations of Serge Moscovici (2010), because it deals with the understanding of the
female representativeness from the characteristics of the feminine applications. The results
found in this research made it possible to understand how female subordination occurs to the
private and domestic sphere, through the sexual division of labor, socially constructed,
composes the social representations of the feminine work and the woman and political
relation.
