Abstract:
A rural settlement can be defined as the creation of new agricultural production units, generated by the emergence of new forms of organization. Understanding how family producers organize production requires the use of categories of analysis that focus on all the activities performed by the family. Therefore, the objective of this work was to characterize settled families, their farming and breeding systems, and to identify and characterize the main production systems present in the settlement. The present work was carried out in the Paxicú Settlement located in the city of Paulista -B, the research was carried out in two stages: The first stage was carried out between the years of 2009 to 2015 by the technical assistance team of the project ATES1 CAAAP2 (Central Association of Settlements of the High Sertão Paraibano) / INCRA-PB. The second phase was carried out between 2016 and 2017, as an activity after the schedule of the master's degree in Agroindustrial System of the Campus of Pombal-UFCG, using the same methodology. The instrument used for research was a questionnaire prepared by ATES1 / INCRA-PB Technical Assistance Team, consisting of "objective" questions with open spaces to make observations when necessary and some "semi-open" questions for more in-depth topics, thus leaving the respondent freer to discuss his / her response (CHIZOTTI, 2005). The questionnaire structured in a multidisciplinary and quantitative way integrated into the Information System, Management and Monitoring of Projects of Settlements - SIGMA. The livestock of the Paxicu settlement is characterized by the extensive, semi-extensive and intensive and mixed breeding system. The extensive system stands out for cattle, pigs, poultry and equines. Livestock production is diversified, with cattle farming being the main activity developed by producers. All activities are mainly focused on food to ensure family food and nutrition, but also income generation from sales of milk, meat, egg products , honey and manure) and by-products (cheese, jam and butter). Animal husbandry in PA has gaps in its land organization and zootechnical and social aspects. Therefore, it is necessary to include better management practices in the herd, especially in terms of food, genetic improvement of the herd, zootechnical records and technical assistance aimed at the professional development of those involved in the herd. sector and reach of better productive indexes.
