Jane Eyre, de Charlotte Brontë: uma leitura patriarcalista.

Abstract

Women’s writing has been a widely discussed subject, mainly the Romanesque writing, a field that during the XIX and XX centuries was dominated by men. In this context, Charlotte Brontë (1816-1855) inserted into literature a new form of writing, one which denounces the role of women in society, and the difficulties they had to face to writing and publishing their works in a period marked by male domination, which limited female independence, restricting their role to housework and caring for the family, and excluding them from the social environment governed by patriarchal rules. Thus, this research aims to analyse the role of women in Victorian society through Jane Eyre, a novel by the English writer Charlotte Brontë, from the perspective of patriarchy. For doing this work bibliographical contributions of authors such as Bonnici (2007), Rocha (2008), Beauvoir (2009), Gilbert e Gubar (1984) among others were used.
