Abstract:
The main goal of this research is to investigate the representation in the literary chronicles of the writer Luís Fernando Veríssimo, published in the periodical Jornal do Brasil from Rio de Janeiro, about the government of the Brazilian ex-president Fernando Henrique Cardoso in the period of his first term. For that, we understand the chronicles as a human production, which is located in a given space/time as well as an element of a historical culture, therefore is a source in the production of historical knowledge in a given period. Based on a theoretical-methodological perspective of the New Cultural History, we will analyze the chronicles using the pragmatic analysis of the narrative by Mota (2015), which searches its basis in the hermeneutic of Ricoeur (1997). Among the categories of analysis used, we highlight: Representations by Chartier (1999); and Tropics of Discourse by White (2014). In this way, we conclude that the representation of the Fernando Henrique Cardoso's government, through the Veríssimo's chronicles, emphasize the irony and, in some cases, the humor and the satire, doing, through the character Éfe Agá, his critique on the neoliberal model based on privatizations, alliances and political arrangements and in the physiological practices of government, to make the necessary possible, as the former president used to affirm.
