Abstract:
The present study is an analysis of the community of the Order of Santa Cruz of the
Penitent from Aurora (CE) in the southern region of Cariri cearense.
It is used the temporal cut between 2015 and 2018 (period of ethnographic
accompaniment with the group), allied to the theoretical methodological conceptions of
Cultural History, and a dialogue with ethnography. The research on these men said
sacred of the rural zone of the city Aurora (CE) is based on three types of sources:
photographs, orality and audiovisual resources. Penitents are farmers who have a
connection in their own way with the divine and their community, and understand the
specificities of the Order of the Santa Cruz is relevant to understand the socio-historical
particularities around this group and to make an analysis of this religiosity. The role of
this monograph was built through three concepts: identity, memory and representation,
as relevant tools to understand this religiosity. Therefore, this research was a study
directed to penitents in the mystical-religious spheres, practices, social relations and the
symbolic field, besides stimulating possible answers to some concerns and problems
around this object of research. This monograph is a study based on analyzing the
penintentialism of Aurora (CE) through the particularities, cosmogonies and social
relations around these practices.
