Resumen:
We are inserted in a society with an increasingly advanced scientific and technological
development. Thus, it is necessary that scientific knowledge be adequately worked at schools,
objectifying an effective scientific literacy. This research had as objective to investigate the
conceptions that students of Elementary Education II have about Science and Scientists,
considering the contribution that scientific knowledge has in their lives, as well as its
importance for technological advances. The research was carried out during August 1, 2016 to
May 7, 2017 with participation of 40 students of Elementary Education II from a State School
located in São João do Rio do Peixe-PB. The research had a quantitative aspect. It used, as
instruments for data collection, the application of questionnaires and systematic observation.
The results obtained indicate that students' conceptions about Science and Scientists are, in the
most part, influenced by the media. The students present a limited knowledge about the image
of the scientist, inclusive the drawings can prove this. In these drawings, there are the figure of
a man working in a laboratory. Thus, it is necessary to overcome the traditional teaching that
still prevails at schools, so that students acquire critical thinking and approach possible
scientific careers.
