Abstract:
The present work was developed aiming at apprehending the positioning of the teachers of the Teaching Network in the Municipality of São José dos Cordeiros - PB, regarding the approach of the Transversal Themes (gender and sexuality) in the classroom. For this, part of the discussion between the different Social Representations made by the teachers researched and the knowledge of each of them on this subject under the light of the National Curricular Parameters. This work intends to point out and discuss the existing gaps in this topic along with the classroom performance of teachers who, for the most part, are unaware of the theme and how it should be worked out. In this perspective, the work shows the difficulty of teaching this topic reported by teachers, given the lack of knowledge about the subject. This is an exploratory study with a quantitative-qualitative approach and use of questionnaire technique with eleven (11) questions and a sample of twenty-nine (29) teachers from seven (07) schools in the municipality. With this work it was possible to observe that both teachers and schools are not prepared to teach this subject, they do not feel comfortable speaking because they do not have knowledge and because it is a very complex topic that generates a lot of controversy within the society, even many believing that it is essential to discuss it with the students in order to reduce prejudice and, consequently, symbolic and physical violence of gender.
