Protagonismo político feminino em lideranças comunitárias na cidade de Sumé-PB.

Abstract

This work was to understand the process of women in the community of the town of Sumé, no Cariri Western Paraibano. In this sense, we sought to know the relationship between gender and the need for empowerment of these women in sumeenses communities, as well as to identify whether or not there are social obstacles to their participation in communities and to identify the behaviors and environments in which these women's leaders act. This study is important to draw the attention of society to the role of women as protagonists in women's empowerment, not only of themselves, but of other women and, as such, as contributors of collective development. For the development of this study a qualitative research was carried out through the Oral History method, with sample composed of seven women who represent the following associations: Oiti Site Community Association (ASCO); Association Rural Beneficent do Site Balanço (ARBSB); Community Cincho Association; Community Association of Neighborhoods of Red Várzea; Community Beneficent Association of white water eye and white head Sites (ASCOBODABCAB); Association of fishermen of Sumé; and United Neighborhoods Together we will win Association. These data make it possible to think about the importance of the role of women in society and especially in the political arena in the city of Sumé, especially as a basis for discussing the concepts that surround the points addressed in the research, in order to understand how the woman was socially and historically building in the region and in what way we understand the notion of gender as a social and historical construct. The data of this research indicate that there is little support and recognition of the performance of these leaders, by the government and society. Besides, the interviewees do not intend to act in the Executive or Legislative, because they believe that these instances are intended for men.
