Resumen:
This work brings a sociological view about some factors that permeate the student’s decision of the Young and Adults Education modality - EJA when finishing high school to attend or not Higher Education. The main objective is to highlight some of the factors that contribute to student decision-making about whether or not to enter higher education, the main motivation when working on this topic is the need to get answers about why few EJA students enter and remain higher education. The research goes through a phase of historical analysis of this teaching modality, bringing facts that for decades have been present in the education of young people and adults in Brazil, then going through the history of higher education offer in the country. The field research uses questionnaires aimed at students from three classes of the third grade high school in three public schools of the Cariri region of Paraíba, located in the cities of Monteiro, Sumé and Serra Branca, which are geographically linked to the Sustainable Development Center of the Semi-arid - CDSA, campus of the Federal University of Campina Grande - UFCG, and also to the campus VI of the State University of Paraíba - UEPB. Consequently, these three cities generate a lot of entrants for these campuses, this was also one of the criteria for choosing the research field. The results point to social, economic and cultural factors that directly interfere in the students' choice to apply for a vacancy in higher education.
