Abstract:
The pepper crop has a great importance because its profitability characteristics and social relevance. Aiming to evaluate the effect of the soil water content and fertility on the growth and production of the biquinho pepper, in vases filled with substrate, an experiment was conducted in a greenhouse at the experimental area of the Federal Institute for Education, Science and Technology of Pernambuco, Campus Barreiros (IFPE-Campus Barreiros) on a factorial experimental design (4 x 5) + 4 ,with four irrigation regimes ((125, 100, 75 e 50% of the water applied by an automatic irrigation trigger), four biofertilizer doses (0, 5, 10, 15 e 20 m.3 ha-1) and one additional treatment with mineral fertilization. The growth of pepper was not affected by the irrigation heads and biofertilizer doses; also there was not difference among the factorial and additional treatment. With the exception of the mean fruit weight, there was no significant difference of the irrigation regimes on the production variables. The biofertilizer doses affected, significantly, in a quadratic way, the biquinho production, being the dose of 10 m3 ha-1 responsible for the best results. The water use efficiency was significantly affected by the irrigation regimes and not by the biofertilizer doses and neither by the interaction. The additional treatment showed that with the utilization of biofertilizer, the pepper production and the water use efficiency were lower than when used mineral fertilization, indicating this last fertilizer more adequate.
