Abstract:
The present work investigates the main causes that led the students of the final years of
elementary school, from the Juizeiro Marizópolis / PB Settlement, to escape from school.
Thus, through a case study, carried out with the help of the questionnaire, as well as of the
theoretical referential raised, we investigated the school dropout of the students of the field in
an agrarian reform settlement. From this, we performed the analyzes of the data obtained in
the research. The results show that the role of the school is to train people for the future and it
is through this that the subject becomes a better person. In this case, the subjects also report
the reasons that led them to abandon school life, such as early marriage, teenage pregnancy,
distance between home and school, bullies and racism. About the idea of school for the
subject of the field, they reveal how was the permanence in the school and what happened
during his school journey. From this perspective, we draw some conclusions about the
reasons for dropping out.
