Résumé:
The present dissertation objective to analyze the discourses that circulated in Instituto Pedagógico – Campina Grande, Paraiba between the years 1931 to 1942, portraying the implementation of the teaching of Hygiene and Physical Education, that sought to meet the precepts of the civilizing social order in vogue at the epoch. In this sense, we used as a research source newspapers and magazines circulated in Campina Grande, PB during the first decades of the twentieth century, such as for example: A União, O Educador, Brasil Novo, Voz da Borborema, A Imprensa, Revista de Ensino of the state of Paraíba, Revista Evolução, the magazine O Cruzeiro and the Almanaque Eu Sei Tudo. Besides these documental sources, also we analyzed the documentary collection incidente that belonged to Instituto Pedagógico. in the analysis of discourse around the circulation of teaching of Hygiene and Physical Education, we consider the approaches of the theoretical-methodological contribution of the New Cultural History, mainly from the discussions made b y the french philosopher Michel
Foucault (2010) emphasizing the concepts of discourse and disciplinary power. Besides that, we dialog with the theoretical analysis of Norbert Elias (2011) about the concept of civility. In the present narrative it was pertinent the dialogue with the concepts of Physical Culture, School Culture, Hygiene, Eugenia, Gender and Culture of the Body. The discussions about the practices of Hygiene and Physical Education were based on historiography related to the subject, for example, Soares Júnior (2015), Parada (2009), Soares (2004), Vago (2004) e Ghiraldelli Jr (1991)., which provided a better understanding of the historicity of a sanitized and physically vigorous body.
