Résumé:
This paper to question historically the iconography of woodcut in Juazeiro do Norte
city, state of Ceará, analyzing images produced by woodcutters Stenio Diniz e Abraão
Batista in the period of 1968 and 1998. The place of Cariri Ceará, even known by its
religiousness and pilgrimages around the figure of father Cícero, also features as
important commercial center and producer of varied objects of the material cultural. So,
the images of woodcuts are importants as support of survival these artist as by their meaning that reflects all over the senses of the people „s cultural practice. This way,
this paper has as objective to rebuild the beginnings of production of theses artifacts with the intention to understand their transformations , processes involved, cultural borrowings, recurrences and the representations around their production. In this direction, It is necessary to keep an watchful eye to each production made by these woodcutters, in order to realize the signs of another cultural manifestations beyond visual ones. Therefore, this work intends to enable others reflections around these art and of its producers that are not properly privileged by reflection.
