Do fogo de monturo à chama das ligas camponesas: sociogênese de uma luta pela liberdade da terra na Paraíba (1954-1964).

Abstract

This dissertation aims at comparing the values mobilized in the forms of daily resistance manifested by rural workers and peasants prior to the emergence of the Ligas Camponesas with the values and symbols elaborated in the forms of mobilization and collective action put into practice by the Ligas Camponesas in the 1950s and 1960, in the sugarcane areas of Paraíba. Based on a hermeneutical approach and the theoretical reference of Norbert Elias, Edward Thompson and James Scott, we analyzed documents such as research papers, texts written by leaders and interview records, carried out by other studios (mainly researchers Regina Novaes and Maria do Socorro Rangel and the religious Sister Tonny Van Ham) with participants of the movement. We hypothesized that the tensions between peasants and rural woekers against the great owners, realized by the everyday forms of resistance, would have based the main symbols and values adopted by the Ligas Camponesas as opposed to the great owners. The research sought to understand in which situations the internalizated rules of the sistema de moradia generated blockades to the mobilization of the Ligas and in what situations it was transformed in revolt against the landowners.
