Resumen:
This paper presents an analysis of a weekly periodical of the 19th century that
his first publications in the years 1852 and 1853 having its end in 1855, in the city
Rio de Janeiro, and had as its first editor-in-chief Joana Paula Manso de
Noronha. We will attempt to present a reading on the condition of nineteenth-century
from a set of images selected and published between the years 1852 and
1853. We emphasize in our analysis the discourse of woman as mistress of the home, mother and
wife who should be well instructed and obedient to the laws dictated by religion in order to
meet all the necessary requirements to fill the profile of a legitimate lady
of the elite responsible for family progress. We discussed how the woman who belonged to
a society of patriarchal values still managed in a timid way its emancipation
moral and participation in the public universe from the recognition of its importance
the maintenance of the family, and how the newspaper fostered this idea in the woman using
as an important and attractive dowry.
