Resumo:
The present work results from a research on the approach of the mathematical contents
present in the plate cistern, in the perspective of the students of the 9th Year of Primary
Education, of the João Marques-Capoeira Branch College, located in the Serra Branca-PB
Rural Zone in Western Cariri. The objective of this research was to study the mathematics
present in plate cisterns and their importance in the capture and utilization of rainwater in the
semi - arid region of Paraíba. We approach the exploratory research to provide greater
familiarity with the problem, making it more explicit, where it can be considered qualitative
and quantitative, in which the data of the field research were obtained from interviews with
the students, complemented with secondary data and non-participant observation semistructured.
As soon as we approach the construction of cisterns, which in addition to
constituting an activity of preservation and conservation of natural resources, we start from
the reality of individuals living and living in the semi-arid region, emphasizing the importance
of mathematical concepts in this development, addressing activities that led the students to
perceive content that permeates everyday life in a meaningful way.
