Resumen:
The current school must establish sustainable relationships with its public, encouraging environmental preservation. The work presents the experiences lived in the pedagogical project "Horta na escola", as a living laboratory. The proposal was based on the understanding that the insertion of vegetable gardens in school spaces can be an important experimental activity that enables the student to get and interact with data from the natural world, sensitizing themselves to soil and water care and healthy eating. In this scenario, the research in question aimed to implant a vegetable garden at the State School of Elementary and Middle Education Maria Balbina Pereira, municipality of Serra Branca, micro region of Cariri Paraíba. Twenty students from the XX series participated in the research. The actions were divided into three distinct moments: i) expository classes, theoretical studies and lectures in order to construct diverse knowledge, this action being developed from the end of the first two months to the end of the second; ii) field classes to contextualize classroom contents with the universe of the region, with visits to the university campus of the Center for Sustainable Development of the Semi-Arid, the Federal University of Campina Grande, Sumé and in student properties, for soil studies in an interdisciplinary action with the Geography component and, finally, iii) construction of the beds for planting, moment of sharing of the lived experiences and the practical application of the knowledge, where the following species were sowed:. This association between theory and practice allowed the teaching of science and geography to be more pleasant and meaningful, with socialization of knowledge about soil and water conservation, healthy eating and livelihood. The students showed interest and participation. The activities sought to promote a living space and interactive at the social and environmental levels that triggered in the students skills, renewed attitudes and awareness of environmental issues, highlighting the relevance of projects in schools to raise awareness and awakening to social and environmental issues.
