Resumen:
Agroecology has been disseminated worldwide as a science whose technical standard
agronomy is able to guide the different strategies of rural development
sustainable development. The objective of this study was to evaluate the perception of family farmers in
relation to the organic production system within the context of the semi-arid and caatinga
a rural association in the municipality of Sumé in Cariri Paraibano. In the caririzeira region,
work was carried out specifically in the municipality of Sumé, belonging to a micro-region
of Western Cariri Paraíba. The data collection was carried out by means of the
on-site visits at the Association of Agroecological Family Producers of Sumé-APFA'S,
in the production units and in the agro-ecological fair through questionnaires and interviews
applied to 22 associates. Organic agriculture was defined by producers as being
mainly a production system that does not adopt the use of agrochemicals and
(16 citations) and as a production system where the crop is health (12
citations). Only 2 people directly associated the importance of organic agriculture
to the environment. The great majority of producers' production is completely
organic (90.90%), meanwhile 4.55% stated that the production is not completely organic.
Of the total production 81.82% is fully marketed and 4.55% is marketed
according to the production. To the total were mentioned 37 products that are cultivated and
marketed at the fair. The most cited vegetables were coriander and lettuce. The papaya
and coconut trees stand out among the fruit trees. Regarding the prices of fair products
Agroecological with the conventional fair, 45,45% of respondents consider the prices of
agroecological fair less or equal, other 45.45% considered as minor and 9.10%
they claim that overall the prices are much lower.
