Resumo:
The present article presents the systematization of the experiences about a practice that
allowed the integration of the Field School Plínio Lemos Public School, with the Zé
Marcolino Settlement community, more specifically Lajinha community (where the school is
located). The project was based on a cotton plantation, to which was explored some
mathematical concepts for the construction of graphs, besides that, the understanding about
the importance of cotton and its development, with the community farmers help. This study
had as approach the precepts of qualitative research. So, it was aimed to understand and
expose how cotton planted in the settlement influences the teaching-learning process of the
school and how it contributes as an articulating element in the practices of contextualization
of school subjects. Thus, we could point out the importance of these activities for the
construction of a meaningful learning, that allowed the integration with the community
bringing the discussion about the importance of cotton planting and the diffusion of their
culture, since it contributes to the development of the community. And still seek to
contextualize the teaching of mathematics, bringing aspects more inherent to the students’
life, once mathematics is often worked in an abstract way.
