Resumo:
The on going growth of the big cities and of the industrialized products consumption joined to the lack of stimulus to minimization, reuse end recycling leads to the excessive increase of solid residue (garbage), what became one of the biggest problems of the modern society. This has been aggravated for the shortage of areas for garbage final destination. The glass residues – glass packing – are detach among the solid residues, due their participation in the garbage and possessing characteristics as: non degradability, high bulky (entire parts) and high density, what it compromises the useful life of the landfills and still have economic potential to reuse and recycling. This work aimed to carry out a gravimetric analysis of the domestic garbage classification and diagnosis of the glass residues to originate by Campina Grande city. This gravimetric analysis was achieved conducted by applying quarters method, but the diagnosis was achieved through
an interview with glass cutting owners, junkyard owners and scavengers by the way to answer questionnaire. It can be pointed in the achieved results, the percentile average of the solid residue composed by organic material (62.83%), paper/cardboard (6.00%), metal (5.00%), glass (1.83%), plastic (9.50%),tetra pak packages (1.17%), others (13.67%). It can be detach that all the glasses collected in the landfills are not the brooked ones that can be sell in nuts, it represented 50% of the total amount of the glass that arrives at the municipal landfill, the other kind of glass stay accumulated without any kind of exploitation. Among of the 35 junkyard that had been searched, the majority commercializes glass materials aiming the return to the resupply industries, and only 10% commercialize
fragments of glass, being this last one destined to the industries recycling it.
