Abstract

The objective of this study is to evaluate the State's performance in meeting the social demand for housing. Due to the spatial and demographic amplitude of the housing problem, we will limit our analysis to the consequences of the State's housing policy in a regional and social sub-space: the city of Campina Grande and its low-income population. This general objective is particularized and illustrated in the study of a specific case of state intervention in the housing problem: Promorar - Program of Eradication of sub-dwellings - of the Catolé Quarry Favela (Campina Grande-Pb. of the Government's Housing Policy, while its ability to play a decisive role in the struggle for the acquisition of public funding for housing and urban development programs at the Promorar.
