Résumé:
This paper aims to examine the project of modern pedagogical engendered by
Henrique de Souza Castriciano (1874 – 1947), which opened a "think otherwise"
modern education in Rio Grande do Norte, since built new forms of each student
relates with itself and others, forging new political strategies for education. Born in
Macaíba, interior RN, Castriciano was sponsored by the oligarchy Albuquerque
Maranhão, which allowed him to enjoy a prominent position in the Potiguar society of
the early twentieth century. Thanks to his performance in the press, particularly the
newspaper The Republic, could convey their ideas about female education in the
state. After a stay in Europe (1909 - 1910), founded the institutions that were the core
of his pedagogical project of modernity: the League of Rio Grande do Norte
Education (1911) and the Domestic School of Natal (1914). With this, under the
influence of European theories – notably ménagère pedagogy – meant that
potiguares women disposed an education more "solid", said "science" based on
domestic chores and a theoretical more accurate. This way, they have undertaken a
genuine "regeneration" in Brazilian society, as would minister teachings more "sane"
to their children in early childhood. Despite the limitations of this school, its
importance can not be obliterated, because women who graduated because of the
knowledge acquired in the institution, could strengthen and, in some cases, lead the
family budget. As for the theoretical framework, we make use of modern concepts,
modernity and modernization (David Harvey et al.), t he notions of identity and
difference (Cultural Studies), and social practices and representations (Roger
Chartier), the idea of dialogism (Mikhail Bakhtin) and the concept of habitus (Norbert
Elias). With regard to sources, in the light of the reference systems analysis and
isotope, borrowed methods of linguistics, we use the three volumes of Henrique
Castriciano: select (texts and poetry), which contain much of the written production of
Castriciano and documents relating the Domestic School of Natal and productions of
his students.
