Resumo:
Studying the social representations and observe how the reference systems that we use to classify the black population are formed. The black population is still seen today in a negative way, the way blacks are represented generates prejudice, the black culture's view is only observed from the viewpoint of slavery, the image that is constructed in the textbooks helps in the construction of prejudice , so the black people do not identify with their origin. As the school is one of the institutions responsible for preparing students to exercise their citizenship, it ends up reproducing historically constructed prejudice. The teaching of Afro-Brazilian culture does not happen in an effective way. In view of this situation, studies are needed to show that the school does not seek to work with the teaching of Afro culture in order to build an identity of the black population that does not generate prejudice. In this way, we intend to problematize the students' view about their "image" representation of the black population, in order to highlight the weaknesses of the implementation of Law 10.639 / 02. This research is qualitative and questionnaires were applied. In this study what points us is that the representation that the students have of the black population is still of a people suffered and humiliated and that this is due to slavery. In this case the school works exclusively the history of the black population only on a commemorative date.
