Résumé:
The construction of agroecological knowledge allows a paradigm shift to occur in agricultural
production models, contributing to the application of a new model of agriculture that
promotes the sustainability of natural resources. In this sense, the objective of the study was
to analyze the level of perception about the principles of agroecology, sustainability and
environmental education with elementary school students in the municipality of Prata-PB.
The research was carried out during the month of June of 2017, in the Municipal School Profª
Maria de Lourdes Nunes de Menezes. It is a descriptive and exploratory work, the target
audience of the research was composed by students of the day shift of the 6th to 9th grade
classes, aged 11 to 17, totaling 86 students. The results obtained show that the level of
knowledge about the subjects is lower than expected, it is suggested to carry out pedagogical
activities with the mediating theme of agroecology, enabling healthy changes in school and in
the population. Thus, allowing sustainable practices to be gradually inserted, providing spaces
of interaction where new concepts are generated, it is necessary to consider that working with
young people opens new possibilities for sustainability to be applied effectively. It is
important to articulate educational actions aimed at the conservation of the environment and
the school is the most appropriate and privileged space for implementing these activities,
since it is the main core of knowledge diffusion in the school.
