Resumo:
This work shows a comparative analysis between Morte e vida severina, by Joao Cabral de Melo Neto, Auto da Compadecida, by Ariano Suassuna, on a sociological perspective. Starting from the study of the mentioned works, it shows that, in Morte e vida severina, the theme is presented in a dramatic way, typifying the misfortune of people that live in the dry north-east, in Brazil, in the figure of Severino, who shows himself impotent before the problems not only because of the lack of rain, but also because of the lack of public politics to minimize the social differences; in Auto da Compadecida, Ariano Suassuna makes the choice for the comic genre, typifying the north-east people, in the figure of Joao Grilo, a human being that is able to articulate strategies of survival to overcome circumstantial difficulties. This way, the study of the mentioned works points out similarities and differences in the approach of the theme presented by the two playwrights, as they talk about the socio-cultural context of the Brazilian north-east, emphasizing the importance of the outer factors, or rather, the social ones, in the building of the work, which become internal, as they belong to the artistic procedure of the respective works.
