Resumo:
The low level of public investment in infrastructure, coupled with the scarcity of water resources due to the drought of the last years, many municipalities in the semi-arid region of the Northeast are facing precarious conditions of water supply and sanitary sewage. Therefore, this work proposes to analyze the water and sewage indicators of the municipalities belonging to the sub-basin of the Peixe River in the Sertão of Paraiba. Thus, the study intends to show the situation of the sanitation system related to the municipalities belonging to the sub-basin during the period from 2013 to 2016, through the technique of vertical and horizontal analysis of water and sewage indicators collected through the available historical series in the National Sanitation Information System. The analysis of these indicators showed that the Peixe/PB sub-basin is still with a low level of investment in sanitation, especially in the collection and treatment of the effluents generated in the sub-basin. However, this work has highlighted the problems of environmental sanitation faced by the sub-basin and will support public managers to have an up-to-date knowledge of the demands of the sub-basin, assisting them in directing the application of investments focused on policies thereby improving the quality of life of the population and the environment in the region.
