Abstract:
The mulungu (Erythrina velutina Willd.) Is a characteristic tree species of the
Brazilian Northeast Caatinga, being widely used in the recovery of degraded
areas and in agroforestry systems. Due to the occurrence of integument
dormancy of the seed the process of seedling formation of the species becomes
somewhat difficult. Thus, this work aimed to evaluate the effect of different pregerminative
treatments on the overcoming of dormancy in mulungu seeds. The
experiment was conducted in the greenhouse under uncontrolled conditions
(LAEB / CDSA / UFCG). The sowing occurred in plastic trays perforated in the
bottom, using the substrate sand, to the depth of 1.0 cm. The experimental
design was completely randomized with 4 treatments, 4 replicates and 25 seeds
in each replicate, totaling 400 seeds. For this, the following pre-germinative
treatments were studied: mechanical scarification (T1); mechanical scarification
with imbibition (T2); Imbibition (T3); and control (T4), being evaluated the
physiological quality. The effect of the treatments was evaluated by means of
emergency and vigor tests (index of emergency speed - IVE), the count of
emerged seeds was in a period of 21 days. According to the data obtained it
was verified that the manual scarification of the tegument with sandpaper nº. 80
on the side opposite the micropyle with soaking for 24 hours was considered
the most efficient treatment for overcoming seed dormancy.
