Resumen:
The objective of this study was to characterize the profile of the hick chicken producer belonging to the Sumeense Poultry Association (ASA), located in the city of Sumé-PB. The information was obtained from the members, through the application of a questionnaire, composed of questions regarding the profile of the producer, the results were analyzed according to the frequency of responses among the categories interviewed. The size of the property area ranged from 10 to 50 hectares. The activity time of these producers ranged from 4 and 5 years. Breeding system adopted by 90% of the producers was the semi-intensive, creating up to 900 birds / shed. The sanitary control was performed by 100% of the interviewees. 30% of the producers used alternative materials: mineral water bottle drinkers and PVC pipe feeders, the supply of concentrated ingredients, core and corn were made by 100% of the interviewees, also was provided to bulky animals such as buffel grass, elephant, tifton, brachiaria, Leucena, corn straw, sorghum, silage, cane, and fruit remains. The main difficulties found to be a producer of hickory chicken in our region were: price of the ration 50% and the lack of public policies 30%. 70% of the production was destined for the government and 20% for the fair. With difficulties in marketing such as: the price of chicken 20% and the place of slaughter 60%. And even with all the difficulties found to be a hickory chicken production in the municipality of Sumé-PB 90% of the respondents said they were satisfied to practice this activity. The study allowed to conclude that the profile of the farmer chicken of the municipality of Sumé had predominance of family labor, with age group between 40 and 50 years, the majority male. Where birds breed in the semi-intensive system. Marketing the chicken in the amount of R$ 25.00 to R$ 35.00.
