Resumen:
The approach of environmental education contextualized with the Semiarid Region through the insertion of didactic tools such as the theme songs of the region, are promising elements in raising the level of learning and valorization of regional potentials. The objective of this work was to analyze music as an instrument of environmental education and its relation with the contextualized teaching of the Semiarid region in a school of the municipal network of Education in the Paraíba Cariri. The work was developed at Municipal Unit of Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education Gonçala Rodrigues de Freitas in the municipality of Sumé-PB. In order to evaluate the level of knowledge regarding contextualized environmental themes of the Semi-arid and Caatinga Biome, and the learning, practice and insertion of music as a didactic instrument, questionnaires were applied in June 2017 to teachers and students of said school. The students of the Gonçala Rodrigues de Freitas School have significant knowledge about the environment (71.88%) and its importance (79.69%), however, only 14.05% carry out actions that contribute to environmental conservation. Regarding the level of degradation of the Caatinga 53.12% of the students did not know to answer or believe that the same is little degraded. Mandacaru is the species most known to the students, however, they recognize exotic fruits as native to the caatinga. Music within the Semiarid context is practically not used during class. In spite of the difficulties pointed out by the teachers in working on environmental education and the contextualization of the Semi-Arid through music, they affirm the possibility of this work, due to its importance in the fixation of knowledge. The collection of the National Library lists a significant number of musical lyrics related to the Semiarid that can easily be worked interdisciplinarily in schools. Therefore, the music of themes related to the Semiarid as a didactic tool, constitutes an important instrument capable of sensitizing the students to the environmental themes in the region, encouraging them to know and value the natural resources of the Caatinga Bioma, so that this knowledge surpasses the walls of the classroom, contributing to Sustainable Development in the Semiarid.
