Abstract:
Environmental degradation is an evolutionary process that minimizes the ability of an ecosystem, damaging the environmental balance, changing the local fauna and flora and the process of urbanization has been the acceleration factor for such action. The aim of this study is to conduct a survey about the anthropogenic activities in the urban stretch of the Pedra Comprida river, in the municipality of Sumé, Paraíba, semi-arid region. We used data obtained from the satellite images, of the years 2010, 2013 and 2016, as well as, field survey, through visual diagnostics with the aid of photographic records in the months of March and June 2017 along the urban stretch of the river, relative to the natural aspects and its alterations through anthropic actions as element of study in the verification of the acceleration of the degradation of that stretch. In addition, the construction of maps of the region under study and the profile of the river along with declivities: General, weighted and equivalent. The study was possible to see launch fresh sewage along the stretch of the river; stage of eutrophication in some points; building uneven urban presence; and the inadequate disposal of garbage. Noted the need for prevention and repair the vegetation formations, in order to reduce and prevent negative environmental impacts over the course of the river.
