Resumen:
One strategic area that influences private sector industries to become competitive in the face of an increasingly demanding market is plant and equipment maintenance management, which is a key factor for competition between industries. The lack of maintenance management entails unscheduled downtime from the production line to perform corrective maintenance to keep the machines running and continue to produce, but these shutdowns use the time available for production as well as affect companies’ costs. Given these situations, and in view of the difficulties encountered by managers of small and medium-sized companies for the implementation of efficient maintenance management, we sought to prepare for a micro-enterprise of the ceramic industry sector located in the Seridó region of Rio Grande do Norte State an action plan based on the premises of RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance), which seeks to develop a planned maintenance strategy in order to increase the availability of machines as well as their safety, without interfering in costs. For this, tools such as Pareto diagram and FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) were used in order to analyze in a more comprehensive way unscheduled downtime that occurred during the analysis period and the risks of each one of them.
