The environmental problems caused by population growth in the last decades in Brazil make it possible to increase the consumption of goods and services by the population. The undue discarding of these wastes and the lack of environmental awareness on the part of the population, makes questions about the themes of environmental management and sustainability, being a priority in studies and discussions on public policies and public administration. The purpose of this paper is to structure a bibliographical research on public management, sustainable development and sustainable practices related to environmental management, especially with regard to environmental legislation and its provisions for the promotion of municipal public management sustainable development. Its main objective is to present legislation, regulations and actions that are part of the instrumental-legal framework available to public management for the promotion of sustainability and environmental management in the city of Sumé - PB. It is, therefore, a research of a descriptive and exploratory nature, seeking to analyze legislation and actions that public management has and / or adopts for sustainable practices in the referred city, understanding, as study period, the years 2010 to 2017 Sumé's city has investments in the area of environmental management only in the year 2016. The reflections to which this work has been proposed bring to light the importance of a municipal public management committed and active in favor of a balanced environment, with public policies aimed at overcoming environmental fragilities.
