Abstract:
This work is based on the historiographical analysis of the Congadas, representing a portion of multiple manifestations of cultural and religious order of African origin. His past African is reinterpreted through devotion to Catholic saints, organized in physical and social space defined: black and mulatto brotherhoods. The overall goal is to achieve through the sources consulted: books, dissertations, theses and monographs problematization of historiographical landmarks of Congadas. As a theoretical perspective we seek dialogue with the concepts of cultural history, cultural practices and representation raised by Sandra Pesavento (2004), Peter Burke (2008) and Roger Chartier (1990). The methodology for this understanding rests on considerations about the symbolic elements that refundam the Congadas a cultural manifestation of the African peoples in Brazil understood as culture space and black resistance mode. The research was based on bibliographic sources. The intention is to try to understand what the importance of Congadas to the study of culture of African peoples in Brazil through a dialogue with the contemporary.
