FERNANDES, Hélder Ferreira de Sousa.
Resumo:
The objective of this work is to understand how the attack of the Lampião bunch occurred in the city of Sousa Paraíba on July 27, 1924, taking into account the most outstanding figure in this fact, Francisco Pereira Dantas (Chico Pereira), natural of the Village of Nazareth today the city of Nazarezinho. Chico Pereira was a member of the gang between 1922 and 1928 and for reasons of revenge enters the city of Sousa bringing with him part of the band of Lampião. The cangaço was this social phenomenon that changed in a unique way the life of the northeasterners in the middle of the eighteenth century and apex in the second half of the nineteenth century and beginning of the twentieth having as characters well known and important to the history of this fact as the best known cangaceiro of all, Lampião. History and memory present themselves in this work from the perspective of Oral History since it contributes through the stories passed from generation to generation through narratives or notions of the facts. Beyond memory we work as the historiography on the general theme of cangaço besides the existing bibliography about the attack. We find that revenge with something intrinsic in the sertaneja society mobilized the man of that period to solve the social disputes by himself, and the cangaço was a means for what we tried to show in the history of the attack on the city of Sousa, object of this study.
