The contextualisation of the environment in Biomes, such as the Caatinga contribute significantly to the valuation of the same and is the only alternative for reversing the current level of degradation that this is. The objective of this work was to analyze the contents of contextualized environmental education addressed in the textbooks and the perception of the students of the basic education of the public network of the Municipality of Serra Branca in the Western Cariri of Paraíba. The work was developed in the State School of Elementary and Middle School Senador José Gaudêncio. In order to understand the approach to contextualization of the environment, Semiarid and Caatinga Bioma subjects, the contents of the textbooks of the third year of high school were analyzed. For the analysis of how much the formation of public basic education contributes to the acquisition of knowledge about the studied subjects, a questionnaire composed of 16 questions was applied. Only 0.8% of the total pages of the Biology books and 5.0% of the Geography books are occupied by contextualized environmental issues. None of the students was able to correctly cite the Brazilian Biomes, there being a confusion between Biomes and Regions. The majority of the students on the Caatinga are rich in Biodiversity (70% of the total students and 85% of the night shift students), 26% of the students in the whole class and 15% of the night shift affirmed that native species Are more important than those introduced. Among the native species cited by the students, the Cactaceae Family obtained the highest number of citations, with emphasis on Xique-Xique, Mandacaru and Coroa de Frade followed by the Marmeleiro in the night shift and Juazeiro in the integral modality. The students of the integral modality have more knowledge about the contextualized environmental issues and the Caatinga Biome. There is an urgent need for the environmental approach contextualized in textbooks of basic education so that this knowledge goes beyond the walls of the classroom, contributing to Sustainable Development In the Semi-Arid.
