It aimed in this undergraduate thesis named “Action of managers in public schools in the city of São José de Piranhas, Paraíba: predicaments and overcomings”, to comprehend the challenges faced in the performance of managers in public schools, in the city of São José de Piranhas, Paraíba, in the organization of the pedagogical work (OPW). Because of a research matter, this study was aligned by the structural quest: what are the main challenges faced by the management of public schools, in the city of São José de Piranhas, Paraíba, according to the organization of administrative and pedagogical work? This production treats of a study of qualitative nature, with approaches of bibliographic and documentary research and with techniques of semi-structured interviews, observation and simple categorization of data survey. It has its basements on Paro (2002), Libâneo (2008), Vasconcellos (2014), amongst other theoretical ones, as well as on LDB n. 9.394/96 and by the SchooI Counsels Instructional Quires of the Education Ministery (2004). This study unfolded by a research field made with public school managers and their respective bureaus, such as belonging to the municipal network as also belonging to the state network, in the city of São José de Piranhas, Paraíba. This way, the research revealed that in the process of public school management the performance of school managers in relation to the organization of the pedagogical work is challenged, in general, by the need of pedagogical wonts organization, optimized and referenced, by the requirement of technical formation and deepening of the political commitment of its docent and not docent team and by the consolidation of the Pedagogical Political Project and interplayschool-family-community. What makes it hard, according to function of pedagogical-administrative wonts that centralizes the power and the decisions of the school, as well as the low participation of the manager on the pedagogical area of the school unities. It is highlighted on this study that the participative management in the school needs to be understood as a principle of democracy to be put in practice by the students, people that must be shaped for citizenship.
