Resumen:
This paper presents a study on the importance of civil music bands in the state of Paraiba - PB. Our theoretical field delineated between ethnomusicology and social and cultural history, focusing on the tradition of civil bands music and its military appropriations in a general appearance. Our main objective seeks to show how important is the process of music education and social development of people within these bands that form amateur musicians and arguably also professional musicians. Thus, this work presents a reflection on which social and professional contributions that these civil music bands can bring to the members who participate in them. As a case study, the research was conducted within a band located in Serra Branca - PB, the band Immaculate Conception Music, cutting out the historical time period of the baton of conductor Joca Lopo. This music band became well known in Paraiba Cariri region as an institution that has always provided musicians to various parts of Brazil and at the same time help in the holistic education of many children and adolescents who were part of the same institution. Such research also brings some approaches about the need for these bands serve as point propellant to the career of an instrumentalist, using as references, duped successes of some paraibanos musicians of national and international renown, they began their careers precisely within that universe of bands Paraíba civil songs. The final conclusions of this study show the importance of this music civil band had and still has in the city of Serra Branca and still recognizing the important role that these bands have in the formation of the Brazilian musician.
