Abstract:
The water resources management is very current theme being one of the most complex issues in the Brazilian Environmental Policy. The water right concession, regulatory instrument of the Law N° 9433/97), it is essential for the management control of water balance in a watershed. For decisions related to that instrument, the quantification of demands in different types of water users is of fundamental importance, highlighting the human supply is a priority. This work deals with the ratio of human to supply water demand across the water potential stored in the three largest public water dam (Epitácio Pessoa, Cordeiro and Camalaú) located in the Region of the upper course of the Paraiba river in the state of Paraiba/Brazil. The demands were simulated on the basis of per capita consumption of municipalities that depend on these waters. Population data were obtained from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), and the data of the daily volumes were provided by the Executive Agency of Water Management in the State of Paraíba – AESA/PB which monitors these weirs. The demand indices presented in this research contributes to support for studies related to water management instruments, such as the water right concession and raw water.
