Abstract:
This study was to evaluate the water quality for human consumption (drinking fountains) in urban public schools of basic education of Monteiro county - PB. physical analyzes were performed - chemical to determine the electrical conductivity levels (EC), pH, chloride, hardness and alkalinity, besides the microbiological analysis for the determination of total and tolerant coliforms (Escherichia coli), using as a parameter for drinking water the values established by Ordinance No. 2914 of 2011 the Ministry of Health. Water samples were analyzed from drinking fountains three elementary schools in the urban municipal public of the city of Monteiro -PB. Samples were collected in two phases, in monthly periods from November 2015 to March 2016, resulting in four collections for physical and chemical analysis, for microbiological analyzes the collection period was from February to April 2016, resulting in three collections. The results showed that all the samples submitted in accordance with the law for all physical - chemical analysis. the presence of total coliform was detected in all water samples analyzed the three selected schools. For the analysis of tolerant coliforms (E. coli) were detected in at least one of the samples taken in the three selected schools. The results demonstrate the need for monitoring the microbiological quality of water for the prevention of diseases, which can result in serious problems for public health.
