Résumé:
The Constitution of 1998 is considered an important milestone in the struggle for gender equality.
Nevertheless, despite the advances, this equality is far from being the reality in Brazilian society, which is still
active for a traditional history of division in power relations between men and women, in the family, in
professional life and especially in politics. According to data from the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Brazil is in
the shame 154th position among the 193 countries analyzed by the same association, in the world ranking of
women's presence in Parliament. Due to the context of under-representation and gender inequality in politics,
this study aims to observe how various nuances that impact on the low representation of women in politics in
Paraíba, with a view to analyzing a sub-representation from a perspective of structures and political institutions
and their potential for inclusion. A survey provides a brief review of the literature on affirmative action and an
importance of public policies to promote gender inclusion without a parliament. The data refer to the
description on the quantitative of women candidates and post-election elections of Law 9,504 / 97.
