Resumen:
The Irrigated Perimeter of Sumé (PIS) was an irrigation project created in 1970 and administered by DNOCS, making the city of Sumé one of the largest tomato producers in Brazil, in 1980 and boosting the economic development of the municipality. However, currently, the production in the irrigated perimeter is minimal or no, which gives birth, especially those people who lived this history of PIS, the inevitable question of what went wrong and what factors contributed to the decline of PIS? This study aimed to understand these factors decline, from a brief historical and social reporting, from the perspective of a child of one of the first settlers of the PIS. Foca deployment periods, peak production and decline of it. Starting from the life story and photo analysis of the time of the perimeter, belonging to the private collection of the interview, recounting the steps of colonas families and the perimeter. The results envisioned, at work, point to the abandonment of the settlers, by the federal government, at the mercy of fate. In addition, the cooperative could be an element of autonomy, it served as a control instrument for irrigators families.
