Abstract:
This study analyzes the training and challenges of teaching practice in youth and adult literacy. Its main objective is to problematize the working conditions of youth and adult literacy teachers and the process of specific teacher training to develop the teaching and learning process, taking into account the challenges encountered in the teaching practice of these literacy subjects. The research was carried out in the night shift at a municipal school located in the city of Triunfo-PB. The data for the research were collected from individual interviews conducted with four young and adult literacy teachers. These data were processed using content analysis techniques, according to Bardin. The results of the analyzes show that literacy teachers face many difficulties, but the desire to literate is greater and so seek to overcome these difficulties from themselves, without specialized support. The greatest difficulties are the low self-esteem of students, their demotivation and total or partial school dropout. As for the specific teacher training to work in the education of young people and adults, the literacy teachers claimed not to have it. This training is not requested by the educational institution and is not adequately offered as continuing education.
